12 Dic Substraction cutting by Julian Roberts
The fashion designer, patron and filmmaker Julian Roberts has created his method Substraction cutting and is an example of personal improvement since his dyslexia prevented him from developing patron. Thanks to his impediment and that the professors told him that it would not be possible to continue with his profession, Julián decided to invent an intuitive method of measuring with his own fists and making a 3 meter long tissue tube structure a tubular envelope, which then models the fabric with the model inside the tube generating innovative and attractive silhouettes.
Julian has shown 12 of his collections at the fashion week in London and has been awarded the “new generation award” 5 times selling his collections in Japan, America, Italy, Hong Kong and London.
This experience has given her a high level of knowledge in fashion design and experimental construction.
During his career he has taught and trained professors at the University of Parsons The New School for Design in New York, Escola da Cidade in São Paolo, Brazil, and the University of the Americas in Santiago, Chile. He is currently a professor at the Royal College of Fine Arts in London and teaches his master classes and workshops in all cities of the world.
“Substraction cutting” is a methodology based on the planning and reinterpretation of pattern making through aerial vision, making use of fabric extraction and learning to model negative spaces in order to achieve new and unexpected volumes and forms, a new way of conceive pattern design through modeling on the body.
The designer has traveled the world sharing with the specialized public his peculiar garment construction techniques. Students learn visually and practically by making clothes and experimenting with their pattern making system. Two years ago, Work Experience Fashion made the press presentation at DIMAD (Madrid design center) and organized its first workshop, from which we leave this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_AuC8NTGpw

We are currently presenting it in La Coruña with Ramón Santos and Ana Calviño. This weekend, December 15 and 16, you can count on your two-day workshop that also includes a manual stamping method.
